The three kinds of Mandovi cruise

  • Sunset cruise — about 90 minutes (two hours on the Princesa), from ₹400 per person. The light, the breeze, music on deck, snacks rather than a meal. Boards on the Panaji waterfront in the early evening.
  • Dinner cruise — about three hours, ₹850–₹1,200 per person. A buffet dinner, a DJ or live music and, on several boats, a Goan folk-dance set. Most board on the Panaji waterfront; the Swastik boards in North Goa.
  • Private yacht — two hours for your group only, ₹9,500–₹25,000 for the whole boat, from Britona across the river from Panaji. Boats take 6 to 16 guests.

Sunset cruise or dinner cruise?

Book the sunset cruise if it is your first evening in Goa, if you are travelling with small children, or if you already have a table booked for dinner. It is short, cheap and hard to get wrong.

Book the dinner cruise if you want the whole evening handled — food, music and a show in one ticket. It costs roughly twice as much and takes twice as long, and it is the better choice for a celebration or a group that wants to dance.

If there are six or more of you, price a private yacht before you book seats: split across the group, a two-hour charter often lands close to the cost of dinner-cruise tickets, with nobody else on board.

What you see from the water

The shared cruises run along the Panaji waterfront towards the mouth of the river, past the offshore casino boats moored in the Mandovi, the old Reis Magos fort on the far bank and the Miramar side of the city. Evening sailings are as much about Panaji's lights as about the sunset itself.

Private charters from Britona cover the same stretch and usually turn near the river mouth. Mornings are calmest, and it is when skippers most often spot dolphins — though no one can promise a sighting.

Where you board

The sunset and most of the dinner cruises board at the jetties on the Panaji waterfront, in Central Goa. Allow about 40 minutes from Calangute or Baga, an hour from Anjuna or Vagator, and 60–90 minutes from South Goa. Parking near the jetties fills up on weekend evenings, so a taxi drop-off is usually easier. Private yachts leave from Britona, about 30 minutes from the North Goa beaches.

Arrive 20–30 minutes before departure. Boats leave on time, and your confirmation carries the exact boarding point and time.

When the river is open

October to March is the reliable season: dry evenings, calm water and every boat running. December and New Year are the busiest nights of the year and sell out days ahead.

From roughly June to September the monsoon restricts sailings, and trips can be cancelled on the day when the water is rough. The live calendar on each listing shows the dates that are genuinely open.
