About This Experience
Discover a quieter side of North Goa with a sunset kayaking experience through the Nerul backwaters. Just a few minutes from Candolim and Coco Beach, this guided paddle takes you away from the noise of beach queues and into tidal channels lined with mangroves, fishing boats, birds and still water.
The experience begins at a small jetty near Nerul, where your instructor helps you choose a single or double kayak, fits your life jacket and gives a simple paddling and safety briefing. The route is gentle and suitable for beginners, with the group staying together at a relaxed pace.
You’ll paddle inland through calm backwater channels as the light softens. Along the way, your guide points out mangroves, fishing activity and birdlife such as kingfishers, egrets, cormorants and other wetland species often seen around Goa’s rivers and creeks. Online guides to Nerul and North Goa kayaking also describe the area as good for mangroves, backwaters and bird spotting.
At the mid-point, the group stops near a quiet mangrove island or sheltered bank for water, Goan snacks and photos. The return leg is timed for sunset, when the channels turn copper-gold and the backwaters feel far removed from the beach crowds.
This experience is ideal for couples, families with older children, solo travellers, nature lovers, birdwatchers and anyone who wants a slower, more local Goa experience. Swimming ability is recommended for comfort, but not required, as all guests wear life jackets and stay with the instructor throughout the paddle.
